Motorsport Events are incredibly successful in the ultra competitive Formula Ford racing scene. Our team have huge experience in this racing category dating back to 1972 and have won national and regional championships.
What is Formula Ford 1600?
This category of racing is the most popular category for single seater racing cars in the world. The cars are proper no compromise racing cars, designed to regulations from the Ford motor company that have only been slightly modified in over 40 years. This is why the class continues to thrive today, with strongly supported regional championships, a national championship and various one off trophy races such as the incredible Walter Hayes Trophy that has over 140 drivers fighting it out for the win!
The cars have just the right balance of power to grip to make them great fun to drive. Overtaking is plentiful in Formula Ford racing and this together with with the big grids is why at many race tracks the crowd eagerly await the Formula Ford race above all overs.
The category has a mixture of drivers racing only for fun, up and coming young drivers aiming for a career in the upper echelons of the sport and ultra fast category benchmark drivers many of whom had the talent to make it at the top level of the sport but lacked the funding.
Why is it a great training Formula?
In many formulas when a car doesn't handle well and is not balanced the driver and engineer will take the easy option and add wing to that end of the car. This can 'solve' the problem, but often will really be masking a mechanical imbalance with the car. In Formula Ford 1600 there are no wings and so you have to improve the balance using springs, dampers, anti roll bars, cambers, tracking, ride heights etc. This makes Formula Ford drivers well schooled and able to move up the formulas with fantastic race car engineering knowledge.
Formula Ford 1600 is also fantastic because you can race at many different circuits all over the UK and gain experience quickly at reasonable cost. Wherever you race there will always be a few very fast drivers to measure your performance against. Winning in Formula Ford means something because of the depth of competition.
Motorsport Events Formula Ford Background
Motorsport Events founder Ed Moore literally grew up within Formula Ford racing! His Father Ian Moore was a Championship winning driver in the 1970's who was capable of beating much better funded future Grand Prix drivers and he also designed and constructed the first Swift Formula Ford cars. Growing up in this environment obviously rubbed off as Ed has won five Formula Ford Championships and is renowned as one of the fastest drivers around, who is capable of beating anyone!
We are known for preparing extremely tidy, well engineered cars that are easy to drive and fast!
Engineering Your Car
Our aim is that our customers achieve their potential and get the most out of their car and driver package. To do this they must work well together. For this to happen the car must have good balance, grip and be easy to drive at it's limit. Not everyone can win, but our engineers can quickly and easily assess how you can move up the field.
We offer a service where we can race prepare your car, offer engineering support on test days, provide driver coaching and race hire of one of our multiple championship winning cars. Even if your racing budget is very limited we can offer just one day with one of our engineers who will go through your car checking everything mechanical . This of course can yield huge benefits.
